Building Stronger Communities Through Innovative Mental Health Support

02/10/2024

” Mental health is not a destination, but a process. It’s about how you drive, not where you’re going.”

In today’s fast-paced world, mental health has become a pressing concern for communities across the globe. The education sector, in particular, has seen a growing need for robust mental health support systems to ensure the well-being of students, parents, and carers. Today, we’re thrilled to share a significant milestone in our ongoing commitment to mental health support through an inspiring partnership with Invictus Wellbeing.

At the heart of this initiative is Katie, a dedicated mental health professional, and her therapy dog, Dexter. Recently, Katie and Dexter engaged with our parents and carers, providing invaluable insights into the support available through Invictus Wellbeing. They discussed the referral process and how these services align seamlessly with national mental health programs like CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services).

Therapy dogs like Dexter play a crucial role in mental health support. Research has shown that interaction with therapy dogs can reduce stress, anxiety, and depression. Dexter’s presence brings a unique, comforting element to our mental health initiatives, making the process of seeking help less daunting and more approachable.

Did You Know? Studies indicate that therapy animals can significantly improve emotional well-being, especially in children. Their non-judgmental presence creates a safe space for individuals to express their feelings and start the healing process.

The highlight of our recent event was undoubtedly the interaction between Dexter and some of our Brearley children. Seeing their faces light up with joy and curiosity was a powerful reminder of why we do what we do. Dexter’s upcoming visits to Riverbank and Brearley schools after half term will include delivering mental health assemblies, further embedding mental health awareness and support within our school communities.

Together, we’re building a stronger community for positive mental health in Calderdale, Bradford, Kirklees, and Leeds. A huge thank you to Invictus for their support. By integrating innovative therapy methods, such as the use of therapy dogs, we are not only providing immediate relief but also fostering long-term resilience and well-being.

We will look forward to the next event!
